Not the First Few But Better than Some in Between

While definitely not up to par with the early Anita novels I was grateful that Blood Noir didn't fall back into old habits - in terms of sex every other chapter. Don't get me wrong there is still MORE than enough sex to go around - which is disappointing since that is the area where I feel Hamilton lacks the most in terms of writing.
Luckily I think this book allowed Hamilton to make in roads with prying Anita out of the completely over-sexed world of the Ardeur. Now if she runs with that and brings back some gritty, tough love, sex is a distraction Anita kickass I will be very happy.

There's a Little of the Old Anita Blake Here
3 Stars
I am what everybody calls an "old" fan, meaning I liked the earlier books a lot better than the new porn LKH is churning out. BUT, I liked this book. The first two thirds of the book were mostly dialogue, sex, and conversations about sex. However, the final third of the book had me glued to the page. It has been a very long time since I couldn't put one of these books down. LKH has such a vivid imagination and created such awesome characters that I became hopelessly addicted to the AB series. It was such a shame to write book after book of porn when she was capable of so much more. I was so impressed with the final third of the book that I am actually going to buy the next book coming. Edward will be in it and I'm hoping Jean Claude will play a bigger role. I miss having him front and center with Anita.
This was a Jason book. We find out what his childhood was like and his relationship with his Dad. Anita agrees to go home with Jason posing as his girlfriend to see his dying father. His father always thought Jason was a homosexual and couldn't love him because of it. Of course, nothing is straight forward and Anita and Jason find themselves the center of a media circus and their lives in danger.
I wish more of the book had been like the final pages but I was glad for that peek into the old world of Anita Blake. Maybe we will see more in the next book.

could've been better

While I love the Anita Blake novels, I thought this one lacked excitement and action. I expected more but hopefully the next book will be better since it seems that it might continue from the Blood Noir book.
