Quite good, different from usual
4 Stars
This book is very different from the previous entries in the Saga of Darren Shan as it takes place in another world wheer Darren and Harkat have gone to discover who Harkat is. The fact the Darren is a vampire is not mentioned much in the book and it concentrates mainly on the world they have travelled to and discovering who Harkat was.
Quite a good entry in the series, and of course a nice surprise at the end when we find out who Harkat was.

Lake o' Souls
5 Stars
Cirque Du Freak The Lake of Souls, by Darren Shan
Harkat was a few steps ahead of me, so he saw into the pit first. A body lay impaled on the stakes, blood dripping from its many wounds but wasn't the body of the panther. It was a red baboon!
"I don't understand" I said "That was a panther's growl not a monkeys'." But how did..." Harkat stopped and gasped "The monkeys' throat it's been ripped open! The panther must've-" He got no further. Death was on the cards today.
That was of the many suspenseful chapters of Cirque Du Freak the Lake of Souls, by Darren Shan. With suspenseful scenes of action and mystery this book is surely going to blow your mind away.
To summarize this amazing book it starts with Darren Shan the young half-vampire Prince traveling with the cirque du freak and the little person Harkat Mulds. With unexpected visit Darren's former girlfriend Debbie and police chief Alice show up and need a guide to Vampire Mountain. At the same time Mr. Des-Tiny arrived and spoke to Harkat saying it was time to find out his true identity. On the road with the two women he decides to help Harkat and points to two girls towards the mountain and sped off back to the cirque. Arriving just in time, Harkat is pushed into an archway to another world and follows him in. Thus, starting another adventure with panthers, dragons, snakes, and a crazy old sea captain.
The book Cirque due Freak the Lake of Souls, is a book that requires good reading skills and hunger of suspenseful battles. Including the awesome vocabulary action scenes and more I think this book should be read by 13 and 18 year olds.
This book is unlike any book I have ever read with its suspense fullness and its action. The only other book I can relate it to is Blood Lines since it's also about vampires.
This book is so good that there aren't many weaknesses. One is the gruesomeness of the battles and death. Two is the disgusting details of this like spiders and snakes. Having multiple strengths this book is one of the best books I have ever read.
So in conclusion, this is a top-notch book for sci-fi readers and will quench your thirst for a good book. The best part is it's in a series, so more good books for you.

Best of the series
5 Stars
I think this may be the best book of this yummy/gross series! Shan shows some expert creativity and a passion for what he is writing as Darren and Harkat escape to a world possessing the mystical Lake of Souls in an attempt to find out who Harkat was in his prior life. This new world is spooky, gripping, and thoroughly terrifying in sheer Shan style. He brings several major plot strings together for plenty of surprises and more emotion than I expected.
