Product Description

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

Fun new series

Do you like Michelle Bardsley's Broken Arrow stories or MaryJanice Davidson's Besty and Fred books? If so you'll like Molly Harper's first book.

Nice Girls Don't have Fans is along the same lines, humorous, first person, great one liners.

I picked the book up on an impulse and thought it sounded good. I seldom do this with books, but glad I did, because I found another author to add to my favorite lists. It reads fast and is more on the light side.

There's light sex scenes in the story... only a couple scenes and those fit into the story. THink the next book will move more into her love life (I know there's two more out in 2009).

I thought it started out much the same as MJD's Betsy story, but it's different enough that it shouldn't bother you ... Maybe it was both books started the same with the main character losing her job... But Jane is just you're every day person, which is what I liked about her.

Give the book a try, you might find one you want to put on your favorites list too.

Absolutly the funniest book I have ever read!!!

I can truely relate to Jane. Her dry humor and increadible (cursed) ability to blurt out what she thinks reminds me of myself. Her best friend is a guy. I wish she was my sister...

This story is a traditional vampire belief (blood exchange to make the change) however, vampires are now out in the open in the modern world. Poor Jane loses her job at the bar spending her severance $25 gift certificate, meets a vampire but is too drunk to realize it. After her car breaks down, she is turned vampire to save her (un)life. And the bad luck continues from there. There is all sort of great humor through out the book, not just once or twice. Just be prepared for for side clenching, rolling on the floor laughter.

Laughed until I snorted funny

Harper's debut novel is refreshing. It is a combination of Buffy, Angel, Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich), with a little Harry Dresden (Jim Butcher) thrown in. Her approach to vampires is different from others. They shop at Wal-Mart for synthetic blood. They are able to collect unemployment benefits. They have Mother issues. There is a support group for the Friends and Family of the Undead.

Half-Moon Hollow is based on the stereotypical Southern Small town. Full with the hippie Food restaurant that the townspeople don't frequent because wheat grass, garbanzo beans, and alfalfa sprouts have no place in the diet unless they are ground together and deep fried.

Looking forward to Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men due out in September.

Well worth your time and very funny too!

I try to read all the paranormal romance books I can get my hands on, and after awhile most of the plots start to seem the same. This book was not like that at all! In my opinion, it stuck out because the heroine didnt rely on a man to save her, there was no romantic angst like "oh I shouldnt love the evil vampire who changed me" or "Oh I'm an evil vampire who changed this poor girl, I"m unworthy of her love". The main character had her own thoughts and her own life, she was interesting and you wanted to know what happened to her. It was well thought out and humorous and entertaining. I will definitely pick up the sequel due out later this year.
