Product Description
These days, Anita Blake is less interested in vampire politics than in an ancient, ordinary dread she shares with women down the ages: she may be pregnant. And, if she is, whether the father is a vampire, werewolf, or something else entirely, it's clear that being a Federal Marshal known for raising the dead and being a vampire executioner is no way to bring up a baby.

I don't know what everybody is so upset about. Sure, the stories are a lot different than they were in the beginning of the series and it did take me awhile to adjust, but I thought this was a great book. I'm even becoming attached to Micah and Nathaniel.
Yeah, it only takes place during one day but so what? Yes, there's plenty of sex. I'm not familiar with soft porn, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I think the sex scenes are really well written. Best of all, my sex life has improved dramatically because of the inspiration I've gotten from the accounts of Anita's sex life.
Maybe I don't feel so betrayed by the changes in the series because I just discovered this series about 2 months ago. I have devoured every book (except the last two) one after another--often losing massive amounts of sleep because I couldn't put the books down. When I realized how important Jean-Claude was becoming, I went back and re-read the first several books to pay more attention to the developing relationship between him and Anita.

A Vampire Slayers worst nightmare....and too much love

As Ms. Hamilton's writing intensifies so does Anita Blake's feeding of the ardeur. This story managed to have 4 major lines running at the same time. Anita's metaphysical changes playing havoc on her and the men she cares for, her inner animals testing her ability to change or not to change and complicating things with even more men, meeting other Master's of the City who want to manipulate her for their own personal gain and give her a new pomme de sang to up their status, and a group of vampires entirely too strong to be allowed to continue to tour as just a vampire/human dance troupe.
We get to see how Anita is coming to grips with how the ardeur is desensitizing her to what she feels about sex and how she is letting it push her boundaries. This also means more trouble with Richard because he can't handle the ardeur and the fact that it may be pushing his sexual boundaries as well but then again Richard is having even more problems controlling his anger that he inherited from Anita and their triumvante.
When all is finished with a loving bow tied around it what more could happen; this is Anita Blake and only she could possibly make it worse than when it started. Having her relationship with Asher change for the better but also for the worse leads to further problems with Jean-Claude and Richard and of course Richard never takes anything well.
